Ann was born on November 23rd, 1829 in Edgworth and his baptism took place on January 19th, 1830 at Edgworth Independent.¹

Ann's father was Benjamin (Bennett) Isherwood and his mother was Esther Mather. His paternal grandparents were James Isherwood and Margaret (Peggy) Fairbrother; his maternal grandparents were Isaac Mather and Alice Fielding. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Peter, James, Margaret, Betty, Esther, Mary and Jane. He had an adopted sister named Deborah.
