Abel was born in September 1795 in Entwistle and his baptism took place on September 27th, 1795 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Abel's father was Christopher Isherwood and his mother was Rachel Lomax. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Christopher, James, Squire, Rachel, Betty, Alice and Kitty.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
