Daniel's father was John Hulme Jnr and his mother was Alice Stones.  His maternal grandparents were Simon Stones and Mary Hardman. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Abraham, John, Simon, Mary, Hannah, Alice, Jane and Alice.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 6 in November 1858 in Farnworth.  He was buried on November 14th, 1858 in Farnworth.²
