Abraham's father was John Hulme Jnr and his mother was Alice Stones. His maternal grandparents were Simon Stones and Mary Hardman. He had three brothers and five sisters, named John, Simon, Daniel, Mary, Hannah, Alice, Jane and Alice. He was the second oldest of the nine children.
