Jane's father was William Howarth and her mother was Jane Booth.  Her maternal grandparents were Richard Booth and Catherine Whalley. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, William, Mary, Hannah, Elizabeth and Alice.  She was the third youngest of the seven known children.
