Hannah was born on January 27th, 1831 in Tottington and her baptism took place on July 3rd, 1831 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1 2  Hannah's father was William Howarth and her mother was Jane Booth.  Her maternal grandparents were Richard Booth and Catherine Whalley. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Alice and Jane.  She was the second oldest of the seven known children.
