Charles' father was John Hopley and his mother was Margaret Reeves.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Hopley and Mary Maddock. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, James, Robert, William, Sarah, Mary and Anne.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 37 in April 1834 in Handley.  He was buried on April 12th, 1834 in Handley.²
