Jeffrey's father was Joseph Hilton and his mother was Alice Mather. His maternal grandparents were Joseph Mather and Jane (Ann) Smith. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Reuben, Joseph, Herbert, Annie and Jane. He was the oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 63 on February 25th, 1941 in Washington.
