John was born on June 26th, 1703 in Knaresborough.1  John's father was John Grimshaw and his mother was Pheobe Cockshaw.  His paternal grandparents were Abraham Grimshaw and Sarah Collier. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Jonathan, Jeremiah, David, Rebeccah, Phebe, Tabitha and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Hannah.  He died at the age of 65 on March 15th, 1769 in Rawden.  He was buried on March 19th, 1769 in Rawden.2
