Peter's father was Peter Green and his mother was Sarah Abrahams. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Abraham and Margaret Mather. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Joseph, John, Elizabeth, Hannah, Sarah, Ellen, Mary and Leah. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
