William was born in 1823 in Wrexham and his baptism took place there on May 16th, 1824.1  William's father was Thomas Eddowes and his mother was Martha Jones.  His paternal grandparents were John Eddowes and Elizabeth Jones. He had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, James, John, Charles, Henry and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the seven known children.
