Elizabeth was born in March 1878 in Bury.1  Elizabeth's father was William Eckersley and her mother was Elizabeth Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were William Mather and Mary Davenport. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, William, Emma and Harriet.  She was the fifth oldest of the six children.
