John was born in 1888 R Rossendale.1  John's father was John Draine and his mother was Elizabeth Knowles.  His paternal grandparents were Robert John Draine and Hannah (Anna) Astin; his maternal grandparents were John Knowles and Jane Abbott. He had a brother and six sisters, named Walter, Jane, Mary, Elizabeth, Betsy, Alice and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 9 in December 1897 R Rossendale.1
