Sarah's father was Robert Davies and her mother was Anne Daulby. Her paternal grandparents were John Davies and Ann Whitfield. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Thomas, John, Arthur, Anne, Elizabeth, Esther and Maria. She was the second youngest of the nine children.
