Robert's father was Robert William Davies and his mother was Mary Ann Wood. His maternal grandparents were Abraham Wood and Sarah Eddowes. He had a brother and two sisters, named William, Sarah and Agnes. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 62 in April 1972 in Wrexham.²
