Owen's father was Walter Stocks Davies and his mother was Adela Gertrude Clifford. His paternal grandparents were Edward Davies and Charlotte Moorhouse Stocks. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Walter, William, Madeline and Doris. He was the oldest of the five children.
