Madeline's father was Walter Stocks Davies and her mother was Adela Gertrude Clifford. Her paternal grandparents were Edward Davies and Charlotte Moorhouse Stocks. She had three brothers and a sister, named Owen, Walter, William and Doris. She was the second oldest of the five children.
