Ann was born in 1870 in Denbighshire.¹

Ann's father was Joseph Davies and her mother was Jane Williams. Her paternal grandparents were John Davies and Ann Whitfield. She had six brothers and a sister, named Meredith, John, William, Thomas, Robert, Benjamin and Polly. She was the third youngest of the eight children.
