Violet was born in 1888 in Blackpool.1 Violet's father was Joseph Crosland and her mother was Rosanna Haynes. Her paternal grandparents were Edward Crosland and Sarah Shaw. She had two brothers and three sisters, named George, Joe, Sarah, Rosa and Lily. She was the second youngest of the six children.-
