Joseph was born on January 28th, 1851 in Longwood.1  Joseph's father was Edward Crosland and his mother was Sarah Shaw.  His paternal grandparents were John Crosland and Mary Wilkinson; his maternal grandparents were George Shaw and Mary Ann Stocks. He had a sister named Jane.  He was the older of the two children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Frederick and Annie.  He died at the age of 52 in 1903 in Blackpool.

‌Joseph and Rosanna were married.  They had two sons and four daughters, named George, Joe, Sarah, Rosa, Lily and Violet.  There are no more children.
