Mary's father was William Crosland and her mother was Dorothy Kay.  Her paternal grandparents were George Crosland and Mary Cowling; her maternal grandparents were William Kay and Ellen Varley. She had five brothers and a sister, named William, George, Joseph, Charles, James and Mary.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died in February 1839 in Whitechapel (Preston).  She was buried on February 6th, 1839 in Whitechapel (Preston).²
