Roscoe's father was Edward James Chiverton and his mother was Selina Brereton. His maternal grandparents were Edward Brereton and Mary Hooley. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Albert, William, Edward, John, Mary and Florence. Roscoe and John were twins. He died at the age of 82 in November 1999 in Birkenhead.²
