Edward's father was Edward James Chiverton and his mother was Selina Brereton. His maternal grandparents were Edward Brereton and Mary Hooley. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Albert, William, Roscoe, John, Mary and Florence. He died at the age of 66 in July 1979 in Birkenhead.²
