William Carter

William was born in 1847 in Saddleworth.¹ William's father was George Carter and his mother was Mary Buckley. His paternal grandparents were William Carter and Betty Stancliffe; his maternal grandparents were John Buckley and Alice Rhodes. He had five brothers and a sister, named John, Frederick, Edward, George, Daniel and Mary. He was the oldest of the seven children.
