John was born in July 1797 in Uppermill and his baptism took place on July 16th, 1797 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).1 2  John's father was John Buckley and his mother was Mary Rhodes.  His paternal grandparents were James Buckley Snr and Elisabeth (Betty) Cresswell. He had a sister named Ann.  He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named William, Mary, Betty and Sally.  He died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, Consumption, 3 months, at the age of 46 on May 7th, 1844 in Uppermill.  He was buried on May 11th, 1844 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).3 





John's family with Alice Rhodes

‌John and Alice were married in a religious ceremony on June 7th, 1821 in Saddleworth.  They had three sons and seven daughters, named James, Frederick, William, Mary, Betty, Hannah, Elizabeth, Sarah, Margaret and Esther.  There are possibly more children.  Hannah and Betty were twins.
