Cornelius' father was Benjamin Buckley and his mother was Eliza Bradburn.  His paternal grandparents were Abner Buckley and Sarah Needham. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Abner, Isaac, Minerva, Sarah and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 68 in December 1930 in Oldham.²
