Abner was born in September 1860 in Oldham.1  Abner's father was Benjamin Buckley and his mother was Eliza Bradburn.  His paternal grandparents were Abner Buckley and Sarah Needham. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Cornelius, Isaac, Minerva, Sarah and Mary.  He was the oldest of the six children.
