Mary's father was William Henry Briggs and her mother was Ann Harman.  Her paternal grandparents were William Briggs and Hannah M Briggs; her maternal grandparents were James Harman and Ann Simmonds. She had six brothers and a sister, named Frederick, William, Arthur, Joseph, James, Albert and Jesse.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 74 in September 1932 in Bradford.¹
