Albert was born in September 1867 in Wakefield.1   Albert's father was William Henry Briggs and his mother was Ann Harman.  His paternal grandparents were William Briggs and Hannah M Briggs; his maternal grandparents were James Harman and Ann Simmonds. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Frederick, William, Arthur, Joseph, James, Mary and Jesse.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.
