Ann's father was James Harman and her mother was Ann Simmonds. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, George, James, John, Mary and Caroline. She was the third oldest of the seven children. She had a half-brother named John. She died at the age of 70 in December 1898 in Bradford.²
