John was born on November 12th, 1836 in Wycombe and his baptism took place there on January 20th, 1837.1  John's father was James Harman and his mother was Ann Simmonds. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, George, James, Ann, Mary and Caroline.  He was the youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named John.  He died at the age of 3 in 1839 in Wycombe.2
