Wright was born in March 1846 in Stalybridge.1  Wright's father was William Boothroyd and his mother was Mary Winterbottom. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Walker, Orlando, Henry, Leigh, Sarah and Bertha.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
