Bertha was born in June 1865 in Ashton-under-Lyne.1  Bertha's father was William Boothroyd and her mother was Mary Winterbottom. She had five brothers and a sister, named Walker, Wright, Orlando, Henry, Leigh and Sarah.  She was the youngest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 69 on June 8th, 1934 in Stalybridge.  She was buried in Stalybridge.2
