Orlando was born in September 1848 in Stalybridge.1  Orlando's father was William Boothroyd and his mother was Mary Winterbottom. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Walker, Wright, Henry, Leigh, Sarah and Bertha.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
