Sarah's father was Jonathan Booth and her mother was Eliza Mather. Her maternal grandparents were Bold (Bould) Mather and Margaret Taylor. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Jonathan, Frederick, Margaret, Anne, Mary and Eliza. She was the youngest of the seven children.
