John's father was Richard Booth and his mother was Betty Redford. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Adam, Richard, Betty, Alice, Sarah and Margaret.  He was the second youngest of the eight children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Thomas, George, Levi and Florence.
