John was born on February 8th, 1795 in Little Bolton and his baptism took place on February 8th, 1795 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  John's father was John Booth and his mother was Alice Lomax.  His maternal grandparents were James Lomax and Mary Taylor. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Josiah, Peter, Robert, Richard, James, Elizabeth and Alice.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
