Matthew's father was Michael Blackburn and his mother was Anne Oldfield. He had three sisters named Sarah, Susana and Anne.  He was the oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Michael, Matthew, John and Mary.  He died at the age of 3 in September 1751 in Newsome.  He was buried on September 28th, 1751 in Almondbury.³
