Eliza's father was Elijah Berry and her mother was Mary Ellen Partington. Her paternal grandparents were John Berry and Mary Collings. She had a brother and five sisters, named John, Elizabeth, Ada, Emily, Martha and Florence. She was the second oldest of the seven children.
