Mary was born in 1806 in Malpas and her christening took place there on October 10th, 1806.1  Mary's father was George Batho and her mother was Martha Cartwright. She had four brothers and six sisters, named John, George, Henry, Charles, Elizabeth, Anne, Sarah, Eliza, Martha and Jane.  She was the oldest of the eleven children.
