Edwin's father was Joseph Barstow and his mother was Edith Buckley. His maternal grandparents were Benjamin Buckley and Patience (Patricia) Oldham. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Norman, Silas, Eleanor and Ethel. He was the fourth oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 59 on April 21st, 1950 in Bristol.²
