James Ashton

James was born in 1854 in Little Hulton.¹

James' father was William Ashton and his mother was Ann Mather. His maternal grandparents were Joshua Grundy and Betty Mather. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Joshua, Jacob, Joseph, John, Sarah, Elizabeth, Alice and Ellen. He was the oldest of the nine children.
