Elizabeth was born in December 1877 in Birkenhead.1  Elizabeth's father was William Ashton and her mother was Elizabeth Eddowes.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Martha Jones. She had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, William, Charles, Arthur, Harry and Amy.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.  She died at 3 months old in March 1878 in Birkenhead.
