Susannah was born in 1835 in Halliwell.1  Susannah's father was James Ashcroft and her mother was Mary Longworth. She had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Daniel, Reuben, Sarah and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the seven known children.
