Sarah was born in 1831 in Halliwell.1  Sarah's father was James Ashcroft and her mother was Mary Longworth. She had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Daniel, Reuben, Susannah and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the seven known children.
