Bessie was born on December 2nd, 1919. Bessie's father was John Anyon and her mother was Louisa Jellicoe. Her maternal grandparents were Edward Jellicoe and Mary Ellen Roscoe. She had three brothers and two sisters, named John, Albert, Maurice, Eva and Nora. She was the second oldest of the six children.
