Elizabeth was born in 1829 in Bolton.1  Elizabeth's father was Thomas Allen and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Critchley. She had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, William, Richard, John and Rebecca.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
