Ann's father was John Allen and her mother was Ellen Crank.  Her paternal grandparents were John Allen and Elizabeth (Betty) Partington. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Thomas, Richard, Joseph, Lillie, Betty, Margaret, Alice and Ellen. She had an adopted sister named Mary.  She died at the age of 4 in June 1866 in Bolton.²
