Esther was born in March 1868 in Saddleworth.1  Esther's father was Thomas Henry Aked and her mother was Margaret Buckley.  Her maternal grandparents were John Buckley and Alice Rhodes. She had a brother and three sisters, named David, Ann, Annie and Alice.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
