Jacobus was born on November 26th, 1864.  Jacobus' father was Jan (Tommie) Thomas Martens and his mother was Anna  Catharina Elizabeth Pretorius.  His paternal grandfather was Jan  Thomas Martens and his paternal grandmother is Anna Maria Isabella Coetzee. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Jan , Dewald, Roelof , Joshua, Erich, Elizabeth, Anna, Martha, Maria and Cornelia.  He died at the age of 65 on April 4th, 1930.
